March 15, 2004 - Illinois compensatory award median falls below that of nation
The 2004 Illinois Verdict Survey showed that the median compensatory award for personal injury trials in Illinois is 20,000, while the nationwide award median is 37,499. Illinois juries render plaintiff verdicts 56 percent of the time, compared to the nation as a whole, which awards damages in 54 percent of personal injury trials. The study is based on award data from 1997 through 2003.
Statistics were also generated on the most frequently reported injury categories from Illinois, the percentage of the total number of awards comprised by each injury group, and the median award for each group, which is the middle value among awards listed.
